Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort Recreated in Blender with Stunning Visuals – and It’s Surprisingly Impressive
Lately, I’ve been completely hooked on retro game remakes, and up until now, my attention has been squarely on the Big Two: Mario and Sonic. But this *Wii Sports Resort* remake has completely caught me off guard with how stunning it is. It’s not a game I would have ever thought needed a visual overhaul, but the developer has absolutely nailed it, delivering what he calls *”killer graphics”* and transforming it into a whole new level of immersion.
Using Blender, YouTuber JimBoat recreated three iconic sports scenes from the game: Swordplay, Table Tennis, and Air Sports. The video below walks you through the entire process, showcasing how he meticulously remodelled everything from the environments and props to the characters, complete with custom animations. The result looks incredibly fun to play, and honestly, it makes me wish we had a new version of the Wii to jump around the room with again.
Check out the video to see the magic in action, and if you’re inspired, take a look at the best animation software out there to start creating your own masterpieces.

One of the most fascinating parts of the video is hearing about the challenges JimBoat faced during the process. For example, animating the characters in the table tennis scene proved particularly tricky due to their constant movement. As he explains, figuring out how to tackle this element was a puzzle in itself, which is partly why the video took so long to create. His solution? Animating individual body parts first, and he demonstrates how he meticulously crafted the racket swings and rotations to bring the scene to life.
The response to JimBoat’s work has been overwhelmingly positive, with commenters showering praise on the project. One viewer wrote, *”These videos deserve WAYYYYY more than 100k views,”* while another added, *”Thank you for bringing back wonderful memories of the game! You’re awesome! 🙂 Could you do bowling, cycling, and basketball next?”* Another fan even expressed hope that this level of visual quality could be what *Switch 2 Sports* might look like in the future.
JimBoat’s YouTube channel is a treasure trove of creative remakes, including an impressive *Mario Kart* remaster that I might revisit for a future article. He describes himself as being *”on a mission to recreate games with realistic graphics,”* and his passion for the craft shines through in every project. If you’re a fan of game remakes or just love seeing creative processes in action, I highly recommend checking out his channel.
